It’s been a life-long dream to once film the worlds best in the planets best waves. In my head I planed this trip for the last 10 years, but on paper since the 2006 June Worlds in RSA.
Preparations were intense and for sure from time to time a complete nightmare.
To fill a boat with 10 riders from four different countries was an enormous challenge.
On top of that getting the latest high definition filming equipment with imported lenses and batteries from the USA save to Indonesia was an even bigger task.
But somehow this trip was meant to happen and everything went according to plan and better.
Another test was to shoot a 40 minutes movie in 14 days. Personally I did not think it was possible for me alone.
Normally I would need 2 to 3 months of travel and filming before there is even close to enough footage for cutting.
The difference this time round was we were in the planets best surf with every day perfect waves.
The guys in front of the lens never made mistakes and were truly the world’s very best waveskiers.
“Gateway to Sorga” has been a combined effort of a huge amount of people with a lot of favour. Filmmaker: Xaver Walser for Sub Graviti Productions.
